Worst air pollution even a pirate captain feared…and a 45-minute delay
The series finale between the San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday will not take place on time.
The game, scheduled to begin at 12:35 p.m. local time on Sept. 29 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will start later than scheduled.
At 12:35 p.m., the Pirates announced that the game would be delayed “due to the current weather and air quality.” The game will now start at 1:20 p.m. (2:20 a.m. ET), 45 minutes later than scheduled.

Smoke from the wildfires in Canada has blanketed the Pittsburgh area. The air quality is so poor that downtown Pittsburgh buildings can only be seen as blurry outlines behind the PNC Park outfield.
As of 12:40 p.m., the Air Quality Index (AQI) in downtown Pittsburgh was 197, worse than the previous day. There are areas in the surrounding neighborhoods with AQIs over 200.토토사이트
The game has been canceled due to the worsening conditions, but the stadium will not announce the delay until game time, and no action will be taken against the fans in attendance. The game was played during the day on a weekday and there were many students in attendance, but there was a lack of consideration for them.
“I don’t think there’s enough concern or awareness of the situation,” Pittsburgh slugger Andrew McCutchen told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and other local media outlets, criticizing Major League Baseball’s decision to play the game in the polluted air.
“If it was a local team or a team from the same district, it would have been canceled,” he said.
Meanwhile, San Diego announced its lineup for the day: Fernando Tatis Jr. (designated hitter), Juan Soto (left field), Manny Machado (third base), Xander Bogaerts (shortstop), Jake Cronenwirth (first base), Luged Odor (right field), Ha Sung Kim (second base), Trent Grisham (center field), and Austin Nola (catcher). Joe Musgrove will get the start.
Pittsburgh released its lineup of Zack Suwinski (center field) Andrew McCutchen (designated hitter) Henry Davis (right field) Carlos Santana (first base) Conor Jo (left field) Nick Gonzalez (shortstop) Bae Ji-Hwan (second base) Jared Triolo (third base) Jason Delay (catcher). Luis Ortiz will get the start.
